So if I’ve gathered correctly, you are pro-life but you agree with some liberties such as saving the mother’s life if the foetus is going to pass away. What about cases where the foetus cannot survive outside the womb?

Yes, I agree with you both. I believe that Irish law as it stands should have led to what you describe – the life of the mother being saved. What I object to is hijacking this case to justify the introduction of (needless and immoral) abortion.

Agree. Life is a gift from God. So save the mother’s life rather than let the dead foetus kill her. Where were the doctors here?

If you read the details of the Savita Halappanavar case, it is clear that the foetus spent several days in the womb simply dying and in distress. If an abortion had been performed the mother would not have developed septicemia and multiple organ failure. I respect your opinions on abortion, but I think that when the foetus is going to pass away anyway and the mother’s life is in risk, the mother’s life should be saved.
